Taste Tips: Basil

As summer vegetable harvests are winding down you are probably finding yourself running out of ideas for your basil. Our minds go instantly to pesto, but this versatile herb can add a sweet complexity to so many foods from meats and vegetables to cocktails and fruit. Even cake and ice cream!

One important thing to note when using basil, it truly shines when added fresh to your dish so let your imagination wander towards ribbons of basil sprinkled on most everything!

Ideas for Fruits: 

Apricots, oranges, blueberries, grapes,  lime, peaches, pineapple, mango, cherries, raspberries, watermelon

Ideas for Vegetables: 

Peppers, chilies, carrots, broccoli, beans, olives, spinach, squashes, tomatoes, potatoes

Ideas for Proteins: 

Cheeses, scallops, lamb, chicken, rabbit, most any protein will love basil! 

Some fun flavor combinations are basil with curries, with lemon, with coconut, with hard and soft cheese, and with chocolate!
